| Abstract | In early May 1996, 639 tonnes of urban garbage from Long Beach, California, was found dumped in Pinggu township, suburban Beijing. This has naturally aroused the anger of the Chinese people. More significantly, perhaps, it also caused some serious reflection among environmentalists in China and abroad. |
