AbstractThe China government has stepped in to double the living space for the average family. Its plan to build 2.5 million apartments every five years is being financed from central government coffers, tax incentives and the investment of Hong Kong-based property giants such as New World Development, Henderson Land, Cheung Kong Holdings and Sun Hung Kai Properties. It is believed that the trend of private home ownership will never snowball until there is a firmer and more flexible mortgage-lending system in place.
