Abstract | Recent events of Eastern Express have left the credibility of the newspaper in shreds. In May 1996, an ill-spelt and grammatically challenged box on page one - presumably penned by the management - promised that the Express would metamorphose by the following day into "Hong Kong's first English-language business newspaper." It seemed the proprietors, Oriental Press Group, had thrown in the towel after a two-year losing battle, concluding: "The English-language general news newspaper market is over-crowded." |
