| Abstract | In 1993 the police forcast that if the law ever caught up with Yip Kai-foon, the robber who escaped from prison custody in 1989 and evaded three police dragnets, he would not want to be taken alive. That prophecy came close to fulfilment just before dawn on 13 May 1996 when, after starting a gun battle with police, the man the authorities say is Hong Kong's most wanted criminal lay bleeding on a pavement in Western with bullet wounds to the stomach and right arm. |
