AbstractThe recent changes in the history curriculum, including the introduction of DBQs in public examinations, the launching of the pilot scheme on local history and the implementation of the Advanced Supplementary Level History syllabus, have been well received by history teachers. The success of the above innovations, however still depends greatly on the extent to which students find the subject interesting. To many S1 students, History is a completely new subject. Teachers, therefore, have to be very careful in helping them to take the first step in the learning of History. The 3 À's approach is a suggestion on how to help S1 students cope with the study of History, hoping that the students would develop greater interest in, instead of p̀hobia' towards, the subject.
