Abstract | On 4 July 1994, Vice-Premier Zhu Rongji addressed a report to some 1,200 officials, ranking from department-chief level and above from the central apparatus of the state, the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the military. There were several indications of the importance of the meeting - the presence of Ding Guangen, China's top press officer, as moderator and its significant location, the hall of Huai Ren Tang inside Beijing's Zhongnanhai. It also marked the first anniversary of the central government's "macro-economic adjustment" campaign. |
