| Abstract | For decades, China's two national assemblies - the National People's Congress (NPC) and the Chinese's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) - were regarded as nothing but rubber stamps for the ruling party in the governance of the country. This is no longer the case. In fact, since China launched its reforms and open door policy in the late 1970s, perceptible changes have taken place both in the NPC and CPPCC. |
