| Abstract | In 1994 Carlos DeAvila travelled to China for the first time, with his friend and former student, William Chiang. Chiang had commissioned him to photograph the old China found in the labyrinths of streets and lanes, and beneath and between the arches and gateways of remote rural villages in Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces. Now those black and white portraits are being exhibited in Hong Kong while DeAvila resumes his photographic travels through China. |
