| Abstract | Kumagai Gumi, one of Japan's foremost construction companies with more than 25 years experience building immersed tube tunnel projects worldwide, is currently involved in two separate projects across Hong Kong's western harbour. Together they form the vital road and rail links between Hong Kong island and the new Chek Lap Kok airport, currently under construction. In joint venture with British contractor Tarmac Construction International, Kumagai is constructing the Lantau and Airport Mass Transit Railway (MTR) crossing, featuring the world's largest curved radii units with a tight constant curvature of 850 metres radius. |
