| Abstract | Among the multitude of changes that have marked Chinese society since the country opened its doors to the outside world 16 years ago, the impact on the subculture of weddings is only a tiny outcrop but a disturbing one. Although it is widely acknowledged that diversification in this human institution is an inevitable and welcome trend, the increasing price tag it carries has long made couples wishing to tie the knot stand in awe of the heavy burden they must bear. |
