| Abstract | Smart cards, a currency substitute with an electronic chip, may represent the next stage in the evolution of money. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) will monitor their introduction given our concerns over the integrity of the payments system and any impact on monetary policy and seigniorage. |
