| Abstract | The new and comprehensive study by the World Bank projects rapid growth in the Asian bond market. However, ensuring the market achieves a critical mass requires a sound policy environment, benchmark government issues in a free market, an efficient financial market infrastructure, credible ratings agencies and effective demand and supply. The bond market should then complement the banking system by channelling long term savings to long term projects. |
