| Abstract | Banks are highly geared and closely interlinked. The Hong Kong Monetary Authority is concerned with the stability of the financial system and providing a measure of protection to depositors. It therefore supervises the banks and may act as a lender of last resort in providing liquidity if systemic risks arise. |
