Article TitleMetal and machinery industry.
Is Part OfInvestment in China : survey of members of the Federation of Hong Kong Industries ; 1994, p.54-62, illus.
AbstractAmong the 67 metal and machinery firms who responded to the survey, 45 firms (67.2%) had invested in China and seven firms (10.4%) had plans to do so. The remaining 15 firms (22.4%) had no intention to invest in China. There are several major push factors resulting in relocation to China. Increasingly stringent environmental legislation on water pollution and chemical waste control has affected the expansion of the surface finishing sector of the metal industry. Space constraints in Hong Kong also obstruct the growth of the machinery industry. Furthermore, as many other industries have relocated to China, the metal and machinery industry has found it necessary to follow suit in order to better serve their industrial clients. In fact, some manufacturers have already established service centres in China to provide after-sales support services.
