Abstract | There really has never been an organization quite like the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) forum. First, it is a child of the post-Cold War era. It is the only new major regional grouping to have so far emerged since this turning point in history. Second, due to its membership, it is clearly the most Asian-influenced international regional grouping. Third, it is the first attempt to put together such a wide-ranging regional grouping in what is recognized as the world's fastest growing hemisphere, the Asian-Pacific region. Apec has a number of features which suggest not only that it will be sustained, but that it is worth developing. |
