Abstract | The exercise of power in China is a complex, interlocking affair. Two major sources of political authority are the Communist Party and the State Council, or central government. Increasingly influential are the National People's Congress (NPC) and the advisory Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC). The Central Military Commission (CMC) and regional leaders also have key roles in national affairs. A guide to the main players and their principal allies is listed in the article. |
