AbstractAir pollution is by no means an easy problem to solve. It cannot be deposited in a treatment plant or landfill, nor can society say it will stop using high-speed vehicles or electricity because every person and industry depends on them. But public support for efforts to reduce air pollution, even if it means slightly higher transport costs, would at least slow the brakes on our rising pollution levels. For if nothing is done, the problem could worsen by up to 50 per cent over the next few years.
