AbstractPolystyrene, a member of the larger plastic family, has often been accused of many sins; it is non-biodegradable; can be toxic when burned; makes up the bulk of landfill and is reported to be "ozone-depleting." However, as the publication of the Centre of Environmental Technology, Pollution Solutions notes: "Despite all the accusations made on the packaging material, polystyrene consumption world-wide continues to grow at a rate of four to five per cent a year."
