| Abstract | China's nation-wide green campaign is turning over a new leaf. New stress is being laid on stemming the deterioration of the environment by combating soil erosion and desert encroachment. The Ministry of Forestry recently set out a blueprint that calls for the expansion of forest coverage from the present 13.9 per cent of the country's total area to 16 per cent by the year 2000 and 17 per cent by 2010. |
