Abstract | Inchcape, is the world's largest car distributor and Inchcape Pacific is its most profitable division. The credit for the success of these particular Sino-British negotiations can be laid at the feet of Paul Cheng, the company's chairman. The decision to appoint him as Inchcape Pacific top man in 1992 is presumably blessed daily by both shareholders and management. When Cheng joined the company 1987, public recognition of the Inchcape name was so low that a campaign was launched to heighten awareness of just what it actually did. Now, it is the people of China who are finding out. |
