| Abstract | Thanks to the anti-flood efforts of last year following what were the worst floods in recent years in south China, the dykes and banks have withstood the onslaught of successive crests down the Xijiang and the Beijing, two of the three main tributaries of the Pearl River, although several cities were inundated by up to two feet of water, which, however, quickly subsided. |
