| Abstract | The Dujiangyan irrigation complex, 50km from Chengdu, dates back almost as far as the city. Amazingly, it still operates. In fact, the present irrigation system of the entire western Sichuan basin, one of the most populous and productive agricultural regions in China, is no more than a modern expansion of the original Dujinagyan complex. |
