| Abstract | Meeting Barbara Fei is a welcome antidote to an overdose of Hong Kong materialism. Classical music and opera enthusiasts in the territory will know Fei as an accomplished opera singer in the Western bel canto tradition. Today, Fei keeps demanding schedules in musical, teaching and academic circles. The lattermost has involved her in the study and development of Chinese bel canto opera, which uses Western techniques of singing set to Chinese lyrics. She regularly visits China to give talks on singing and Western composers. |
