| Abstract | The Waste Disposal (Amendment) Ordinance 1995 was gazetted on 17 February, 1995. The amendment is intended to bring Hong Kong in line with the Basel Convention on the Control of the Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal, 1989. While it is not yet in effect, discussions regarding its implementation are ongoing, and it is expected to come into force within the next few months. The aim of this brief report is to explain the basic framework of the Convention and the Ordinance as well as to set out how China has implemented its international obligations under the Convention. |
