AbstractAttorney General Jeremy Matthews says by restructuring the legal system, the consumer will have more choice and, in some cases, lower costs. Matthews rejects the Law Society's calls for a full-scale fusion of the profession, opting instead to allow only solicitors with advocacy qualifications to have right of audience in the High Court. This would make it possible for solicitors to appear in all courts after undertaking statutory courses and passing an examination.
