Article TitleChina's banking reform and implications for foreign business.
Is Part OfTrade watch ; Jun 1994, p.1-9.
AbstractThe reform, upon successful implementation, is envisaged to help China establish a market-oriented financial system, replacing the rigid credit quota system with a profit driven mechanism. A more rational banking environment is seen to be conducive to the healthy development of the economy. Hong Kong now serves as a major financial centre for China. It is believed that as specialized banks become commercialized, more mainland banks will extend their business to Hong Kong.
