AbstractThe present study, based on a model on spurned helpers' reactions, attempts to examine the extent to which spurning would contribute to burnout in a group of beginning teachers. Spurning and burnout were measured before they started teaching, and six months and one year into their work. The results showed that spurning did result in burnout. The processes by which spurning contributed to burnout were also discussed.
