AbstractIn the fight against pollution, it is easy to identify those responsible for huge chemical spills, or the big factories churning out tonnes of untreated waste. But while these may make the headlines, other polluters, notably smaller companies using chemical processes, go almost unnoticed as they contribute to the estimated 2 million tonnes of industrial and domestic waste discharged daily into Hongkong waters. These small and medium-sized firms, such as those involved in electroplating or making printed circuit boards, have neither the capital nor the space to incoporate effective pollution treatment measures.
