| Abstract | Property developers had, we were assured, developed a persecution complex, following two years of government efforts to dampen speculation and so reduce the price of accommodation. It was stoutly maintained that the government measures has made no difference. Market forces had done the trick. After all, the official effort was against speculators, a category which our property developers would not be seen dead in, at least in public. Nevertheless the measures had, presumably, resulted in some loss of wealth to the property nabobs and they were happy to claim compensation for it. |
