AbstractYet 700 million people worldwide still don't have enough to eat. IRRI scientists predict that by 2020, farmers will need to feed 2.7 billion more rice eaters in Asia. Last August, the journal World Watch projected dire consequences from an impending gap between China's food demands and its production capabilities. Beijing quickly dismissed the report.
