Abstract | Star TV, the Hongkong-based satellite broadcaster, says it isn't gloating over the demise of the communications satellite Apstar-2, which fell flaming from the sky just seconds after its launch. But though a company spokeswoman says "We're not exactly laughing," the Rupert Murdoch-controlled Star does have reason to smile. The crash has programmers scrambling for alternate space to expand in Asia. With Apstar-2 blown out of the market, the choice is very limited and tilted in Star's favour. Asiasat-2, expected to go up on June 30, and its predecessor Asiasat-1, are controlled by Star. |
