AbstractBoth Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) and mycobacteria other than tuberculosis (MOTT) are common causes of infection in patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This is attributed to the impaired cell mediated immunity and reduced CD4 counts among these patients. Recently, a sharp increase of multidrug-resistant MTB cases were reported in the United States. In Hong Kong, although very few in number, were also encountered.
