AbstractAt present there are approximately 1,800 infirmary beds in Hong Kong, a significant proportion of which is being utilized as slow-stream convalescent beds to support the busy acute services.Even ignoring the existing waiting list, the net addition of 1500 cases per year can only be cleared annually - allowing a sort of "steady-state equilibrium" - by providing some extra 1500 beds with an average duration of stay of one year.
