| Abstract | Since the introduction of open policy in the late 1970s, the economy of Guangdong has been transformed into an export-oriented one. This was attributable to its close economic ties with Hong Kong as well as the favorable policies from central government, which allowed Guangdong a high degree of autonomy in handling its economic affairs. |
