| Abstract | As the memories of June 1989 in Beijing recede, it is now clear that China's leaders and thoughtful people in Hong Kong are seeking ways to relieve the territory of uncertainty in the run-up to 1997. Many analysts now believe that with Beijing normalising its relations with the world outside and the economic reform programme on course again, there is reason to be bullish about Hong Kong's post-1997 future.
